It takes over 2000 litres of water to produce just one megawatt hour of electricity and the power generation industry demands high grade and constant water supplies to produce it. The industry also relies on innovative technology and treatment plants to provide ultrapure water for medium and high pressure water applications, such as the boilers that feed power conversion turbines.
To reach the quality standard of water fed to power stations, the source of the raw water is an important consideration as it may vary from sea water (which will need extensive treatment), to ordinary drinking water (which is clean but expensive). Additionally, reducing water costs without sacrificing a steady, reliable and flexible supply is critical to the continued generation of power.
