Oil and Gas

Your Challenge

On-shore oil production uses various techniques for extracting oil or gas. Regardless of the chosen technique water is always extracted with it. This produced water constitutes the single largest waste stream for the oil and gas industry and the volume is set to increase as wells become exhausted. (The opposite is true for coal bed methane wells, which produce more water at the beginning of their lifecycles.) Produced water treatment involves removing hydrocarbons, oils and other pollutants so that the water may be disposed of or recovered.

Offshore oil production involves equipment at sea in a fixed location. Various types of platforms and vessels are employed for this duty supported by other craft for related activities such as supply and transportation. The offshore industry's need for water treatment can be classified as directly related to the production process (injection water, produced water treatment, wash water treatment) and indirectly related (ballast water treatment, sewage treatment, drinking water production, etc.)

Oil and gas companies need water in all stages of production. From process and feed water to treated wastewater and sludge, which must be filtered and clarified before being released back into the environment or recycled. The treated wastewater must meet specially prescribed criteria - either regulatory driven or process mandated.

Our Solutions

Veolia Water has numerous technologies available for the treatment of crude processing wastewater, ranging from simple oil / water separation, to biological treatment and polishing prior to final discharge. We also hold licensed technologies and processes that do more than simply treat for disposal; they allow waste to be converted to product for reuse.

Many of our oil and gas clients decide to focus on their core manufacturing business and transfer the responsibility for water treatment functions to us. This offers guaranteed results as the operation and maintenance of the new or existing water or waste water plant is left in the capable hands of specialists. Outsourcing the design, build, operation and maintenance of the plant to us benefits oil and gas providers by offering:
