Design, Project Management and Construction

Our bid team works closely with our clients, their architects and all consultants, as well as other utility service providers to design, plan and cost the provision of all the utilities required for the development. Our design team includes highly experienced multi-utility design co-ordinators and CAD technicians.

As part of the design process we obtain the best possible commercial arrangement available to the developer for the adoption of the utility networks. This will be with either the incumbent statutory undertaker or a licensed independent company, many of whom offer higher asset and capital contributions, which can be set against the capital cost of the utilities. Veolia Water will also look to explore the benefits, to the developer, of owning and operating the water and waste water networks as insets.

A Project Management team is assigned to the client's development. The Project Manager is their single point of contact and is totally accountable for service delivery from bid acceptance right through to the handover of third party assets. Each of our Project Managers are highly qualified and experienced in multi-utility installations. They ensure everything runs smoothly, delivered within budget and to the agreed timescales. In addition, they manage and monitor each process, including:

  • Excavation of the trench
  • Mains installation
  • Service connections
  • Installation of metering equipment
  • Liaison with all utility service providers and local authorities
  • Quality programmes
  • Health and safety

Most importantly, our clients are kept informed of progress every step of the way.

The Project Manager also co-ordinates and manages all mains reinforcements and diversions and holds regular meetings on-site to discuss and deliver progress reports, as-laid records and resolve any changes to the build programme.

By being more visible on-site we can work with ground workers and other contractors to minimise disruption to the build programme.

We employ our own highly trained, multi-skilled teams and operatives who will construct the networks in a safe and cost effective manner to the specifications required by the adopting utility company.

Working to an agreed programme and where possible, our contractors will excavate a single multi-utility mains trench and lay all water and gas mains, electrical cables and BT ducts. We will then oversee all service connections, and installations of metering equipment (including MPAN numbers), and organise regular safety inspections of all utility operations to make sure there are no surprises.
