Veolia Water nominated at Industry Awards
Our work designing and operating a leachate treatment plant at Veolia Environmental Services' Candles landfill site has been nominated for two Environmental Awards this year.
The plant treats rain water that collects at the bottom of a landfill (called leachate) so that it can be safely returned, contaminant free, back into the sewerage system. The treatment process also creates sustainable by-products such as electricity and ammonia, which otherwise would have been taken from natural resources. The site uses a host of innovative solutions and was awarded Best Available Techniques status by the Environment Agency this year.
Both the Edie Environmental Excellence Awards and the Utility Industry Achievement Awards have shortlisted Candles for its innovation and focus on recycling and reuse.
