Operating in 59 countries, Veolia Water is involved at every stage of the water cycle from abstracting water from the natural environment, producing and supplying drinking water, collecting and transporting wastewater which, once it has been treated, is released back into the natural environment. The Group may also be involved upstream, by preserving the natural water resources or, downstream, in order to protect the receiving environment.
Water resources
Water is a renewable and reusable resource but it is not inexhaustible.
Since the beginning of the 20th century, increasing water consumption has mirrored the growth in the world's population as well as that of increased urbanization, changes in living standards and the effects of extensive agriculture. Alongside our current water requirements, there is a need on all five continents to treat wastewater in compliance with standards on waste disposal that are increasingly taking into account environmental concerns.
In order to meet the requirements of local authorities, domestic consumers and industrial customers in a sustainable development manner, Veolia Water provides them with unique expertise in the water cycle, based on more than 150 years of experience.

Drinking water
From abstraction of untreated water to it coming out of customers' taps, the professionals at Veolia Water are committed to providing its customers, on a day to day basis, with a clean water supply as well as a good quality service.
Treating raw water in order to make it safe to drink, managing facilities and supplying drinking water remains Veolia Water's core activities. The group's expertise in drinking water comes to the fore primarily in analysing and monitoring water from the catchment area through to the end user's tap, implementing the most effective treatment processes in production plants, continually servicing and monitoring storage tanks and distribution systems as well as in customer relations.
Wastewater
An important stage in conserving water resources
The collection and treatment of wastewater is a priority for Veolia Water, since this is an important stage for conserving water resources. The Group therefore uses all of its skills here in order to ensure control, reliability and safety when collecting and treating wastewater until its release, after treatment, into the natural environment.
