Veolia Water Education

Veolia Water's Environment and Education Centre

Veolia Water has an award-winning education team in the UK who run a large number of activities both at the purpose-built Environment and Education Centre in Hertfordshire and through a popular school-based outreach programme.

The education programme is developed to assist teachers in the delivery of the National Curriculum or QCA Schemes of Work. The team also provides support for teachers on a number of topics including sustainable development and recycling, has links with local authorities and organises activities for customers.

In 2007, more than 16,000 children and adults from 364 schools participated in the water-related activities on offer. The Centre has had contact with over 140,000 people since 1998.

Environment and Education Centre

Learning at the Environment and Education Centre

Through its strong links with local education authorities, Education Business Partnerships and environmental bodies, our award-winning Environment and Education Centre is able to enrich the educational experiences of schoolchildren, students and adults.

Having celebrated its 10-year anniversary in 2008, the Centre continues to promote water efficiency through its education programmes, with national curriculum-based activities taking place both at the Centre and through an extensive outreach programme. These activities aim to build environmental awareness and offer practical ways in which children and their parents can be more water efficient.

The Centre's teaching staff also work with schoolchildren to achieve Eco-School Awards through accredited water audits. As the Centre's Manager says, "It's essential that we teach children about water efficiency and environmental sustainability when they are young because they go home and relay these messages to their siblings, parents and grandparents. This is the spark that can fuel a revolution in environmental awareness that we hope will continue for generations to come."
