Veolia Water UK received a coveted Big Tick Award for Excellence for demonstrating environmental leadership in water efficiency and resource efficiency.

These independent and peer-assessed corporate responsibility awards are run in association with the Financial Times. They recognise and celebrate those companies who have shown innovation, creativity and a sustained commitment to corporate responsibility.

Examples of innovation included the Veolia Water Central/SQS excavated waste recycling project (see below) and a new sustainable process for treating rainwater falling on landfill sites, which produces commercially viable by-products.

Business Commitment to the Environment: Environmental Leadership Award - Major Commendation

Awarded jointly to Veolia Water Central and Stanmore Quality Surfacing

Veolia Water Central, which supplies drinking water to 3.2 million people in North London and the south-east, received a Major Commendation from Business Commitment to the Environment (BCE) for linking up with its highways reinstatement and maintenance partner Stanmore Quality Surfacing (SQS) to reduce the environmental impact of its street works by changing industry standards and practices for sustainable waste recycling.

The partnership has resulted in more than 20,000 tonnes of excavated street works waste being recycled and reused to back-fill trenches and a saving of almost 2,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide.

2010 Hertfordshire Green Awards

Veolia Water wins Best Environmental Travel Project Award

We were rewarded for our innovative approach to travel when we won the Best Environmental Travel Project category at the 2010 Hertfordshire Green Awards ceremony.

The award was given in recognition of the travel plan at our Hatfield office, which involved implementing a range of alternative travel arrangements for staff when the Hatfield and Bushey offices relocated in April 2009.

Industry Achievement Award 2010

Veolia Water Nevis, together with Aquatrine Supplier Association partners are the proud winners of the Utility Industry Achievement Award for supply chain excellence.

The Aquatrine Supplier Association won the award by smashing its target for reducing water consumption over a decade ahead of schedule.

The partnership between Defence Estates, Veolia Water Nevis, Kelda Water Services Defence and C2C Services Ltd delivers water and wastewater services for most Ministry of Defence (MOD) sites across England, Scotland and Wales. It met the Government target to cut water consumption by 25 per cent by the year 2020 in 2009.

By applying the latest techniques and technologies in leakage detection and repair across the Defence estate, the team delivered savings equivalent to 10 Olympic-sized swimming pools every day.

Health and Safety

RoSPA Gold Award

RoSPA Gold Award for Occupational Health and Safety

Veolia Water Outsourcing, the business services arm of Veolia Water UK, has been awarded a prestigious RoSPA Gold Award for Occupational Health and Safety.

The award is non-competitive and based on the entrant's individual occupational health and safety performance assessed against the judging criteria. Awards are made at Gold, Silver, Bronze and Merit level, progressing to higher awards for sustained achievement.

It was the first time Veolia Water Outsourcing applied for the award and is the highest award for a first time entry.

Sustainability

2011 sustain' Magazine Awards for Sustainability, Business & the Built Environment

2011 sustain' Magazine Awards for Sustainability, Business & the Built Environment.

Veolia Water won the Water award at the 2011 sustain' Magazine Awards for Sustainability, Business & the Built Environment.

Our innovative work at Uskmouth Power station, which involved designing, building and operating an ultrafiltration plant to recycle wastewater from a newarby sewage works, took the prize. The plant supplies ultrafiltered water to the power station's boilers. It's 10% of the cost of mains water, which was used before, and brings a whole host of ther environmental, sustainable and financial benefits.

The Uskmouth plant was competing against our leachate treatment plant at the Candles landfill site.

The sustain' Magazine awards are designed to celebrate the high hopes and hard work, commitment and creativity, radicalism and rigour, inspiration and perspiration of all those achieving distinction and success in the field of Sustainability.

Our Candles site previously won the Environment Award at the Utility Industry Achievement Awards in December 2009, and both Candles and Uskmouth Power were nominated at the recent Institute of Chemical Engineers Awards for Innovation and Excellence.

Institute of Chemical Engineers Awards for Innovation and Excellence

Veolia Water was shortlisted for two awards at the 2010 Institute of Chemical Engineers Awards for Innovation and Excellence.

The submissions were for our innovative work at Uskmouth Power station and the leachate treatment plant at the Candles landfill site and both were put forward for the Water Management and Supply Award.

Now in their 17th year, the IChemE awards celebrate both individual and team achievement and are recognised and highly regarded throughout the international chemical, process and biochemical engineering community.

Our work at the Candles site is already a winner - we won the Environment Award at the Utility Industry Achievement Awards in December 2009.

2010 Engineers Ireland Excellence Awards

Engineers Ireland Excellence Awards

Veolia Water Ireland has been nominated for the Engineering Project of the Year at the 2010 Engineers Ireland Excellence Awards.

In 2006, Veolia Water was awarded the contract to upgrade and operate the Clareville drinking water treatment plant, which supplies 87 million litres a day of water to Limerick city and its surrounding area.

National Customer Service Awards

All the hard work in delivering great customer experiences and improving the processes we carry out continues to pay off.

The Directors Office at Veolia Water Central was shortlisted for an award in the National Customer Service Awards 2010 in the category National Customer Service Complaints Team of the Year. Mariyah Acka'a, Commercial Customer Experience Manager, was also shortlisted in the Customer Service Manager category.

Our team was benchmarked against others across the Customer Service Industry to reach this stage.

2010 Welsh Contact Centre Awards

2010 Welsh Contact Centre Awards

Our customer relations team in Wales was a finalist in the 2010 Welsh Contact Centre Awards. The team, who service our Dwr Cymru/Welsh Water contract, were up for the Customer Services award.

The nomination is based around the Rapid Response Team. The team take an account management approach to resolve complex queries and had to make a presentation to judges about their work and succeses.
